Continued from part 1. The following installation process must be done on the both nodes. The first step when you installing TIBCO SOA products is TIBCO Runtime Agent (TRA) installation. As TIBCO doesn’t have x64 TRA yet, I have to use 32 bit installer on my 64 bit system: TIB_tra-suite_5.6.0_win_x86_32.exe. At this time, 5.6 is the latest minor release of TRA.

After welcome screen, I will scroll down and accept license agreement, next read notes and select custom install. List of products included in the TRA package will appear on the screen. You may suggest that on production server is no need to install designer, but it is not so, I’m faced with the dependence of certain components, such as TIBCO SmartMapper, from its designer libraries. My suggestion is install full suite. Next step is specify default installation home that will be used for all TIBCO products. I prefer to use “D:\tibco” folder. Some next steps allow me to install documentations for components and the last screen before files copying is installation preview and confirmation.

After all files are copied, will be offered the opportunity to install an additional database JDBC driver. You can use this opportunity to install an additional driver or do it later manually like me. After that installation summary screen will appear and installation will be finished.

Now it is time to install TRA patch release. The latest is 5.6.1, file is TIB_tra-suite_5.6.1_win_x86.exe. Patch release is not includes all TRA files, so it must be installed after latest minor release.Installation looks very similar to TRA installation, but is is update only: next, next, next, finish.

Installing TIBCO ActiveMatrix BusinessWorks is not more difficult than installing Runtime Agent. At this time minor version is 5.7, file name is TIB_bw-simple_5.7.0_win_x86.exe. After welcome screen, I will scroll down and accept license agreement, read notes and look at detected an established installation home – “D:\tibco” in my case. Custom setup type helps me make sure I install all the components. Installation preview screen do the same thing. After short files copying process TIBCO BusinessWorks installation will be finished.

As x64 EMS is available, I will use latest 64 bit version 5.1.3 in TIB_ems_5.1.3_win_x86_64_vc8.zip archive. To install TIBCO EMS from version 5 new TIBCOUniversalInstaller will be used. By the way, this new installer is also used to install TIBCO Rendezvous from version 8 if you need install it as complete standalone product not as limited TRA part. Looks like TIBCO decided to switch all the products in this new installer. Package distributed as zip file and size increased twice compare to old binary installer package. For me old installer was lighter than new. Fundamental change in the new installer is that now we can specify different installation environments and it helps to install and manage many instances of same product on one host.

Then I will select custom installation as usual to install full set. If you install TIBCO EMS on MS Windows platform, installer will install EMS as a system service. Next question will be concerning service startup type: manual or auto. Let it be manual, in fact it doesn’t matter in my case as I will remove this default service and install it later a little differently. On the next screen pre-install summary will be displayed and after press to “install” button TIBCO EMS installation process will be completed.

The last main product to install is TIBCO Administrator. The latest version at this time is 5.6.0 and I will install from TIB_tibcoadmin-epe-simple_5.6.0_win_x86_32 as it only 32 bit version available. Installation is very simple: accept license agreements, read notes, look at gray read-only installation folder name as it is old installer again, select custom type and leave administrator binaries and its documentation checked. After confirmation, installation process will be completed

TIBCO Domain Utility will be started automatically. Do not close this window, I will continue with domain creation in the part 3.

This is divided into four parts description of installation process of TIBCO domain on Windows 2008 R2 Failover Cluster. The aim of this is to get running on two hosts fault-tolerant TIBCO domain which contain two TIBCO EMS servers. Each TIBCO EMS server is running as cluster application and use cluster disk for data store. This solution helps to get fault-tolerant TIBCO EMS design and there is no need to have shared volumes, which is expensive solution and not available on the Windows platform yet (CSV is recently appeared exclusion made for Hyper-V). The final configuration shown in the TIBCO Administrator screenshot on the right, where is S-TST01-TIB01 is the first node and S-TST02-TIB01 is the second node. TIBCO Administrator is running on each node as master/secondary pair. Test application is running on the same hosts as fault-tolerant group in active/standby mode. But the most interesting part of domain is TST00-TIB01 – cluster service which acting as virtual host where both EMS servers live in TIBCO domain. I will explain from the beginning.

First of all I’m going to prepare two nodes cluster. Base software is MS Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition. Here are two disk connected to both cluster nodes. In my case storage system connected to servers via iSCSI interface. Two volumes were prepared: one small 5G will be act as cluster quorum disk, second large 50G will be used for clustered application data store. Both are raw volumes at this time.

I’m going to put both volumes online and initialize it. If you will do it like me, do it only on one node! After this step I can create NTFS file system on quorum disk. Start “New Simple Volume Wizard”, let it to use whole disk, assign drive letter, I prefer “Q” for quorum, then perform a quick format with default settings.

I suppose that both my nodes are ready for failover cluster. But the best practice to check it before. So, I will start cluster validation process. Here a lot of steps for testing cluster core resources availability such as network and storages. During testing, access to shared volumes will be checked from both nodes. After completion of testing, validation report will be generated. In my case warning message was received as my network adapter has no redundancy: between my servers only one network path and it will be a single point of failure. In production cluster it is better to avoid things like this, I will correct this before going to production.

As all other things were good, I’m ready to create failover cluster. I just start “Create Cluster Wizard” and add the names of all the servers that I want to have in the cluster. Then type the cluster name. After confirmation, cluster creation and configuration process will be running. When cluster will be formed, summary message and final report will be generated. Everything looks very good in my case, so I’m ready to prepare storage for cluster data disk. In future, it will be used as storage for TIBCO EMS and TIBCO Hawk. The steps are the same as for quorum disk: “New Simple Volume Wizard”, drive letter assign, let it be “T” for TIBCO, NTFS quick format.

After that my storage is available as cluster resource and I’m prepared to create cluster resources that will be used for TIBCO services. I will start with “Create Empty Service or Application” action, then rename this new service to TST00-TIB01 and add client access point with the same name: TST00-TIB01. IP address will be assigned automatically by DHCP. Then it’s time to add storage to this service. I will select my available Cluster Disk 1.

Last step is bring this service group online. At this point of time both nodes are ready for TIBCO software installation. I will continue from this point in the part 2.

You can use the ems admin API to get the queue stats and check against the flowcontrol value to find out if it exceeds 80%. Call the API using a script from hawk & send mail when it exceeds.

HermesJMS provides a GUI to access JMS queues and topics for common tasks such as sending messages, removing messages and copying messages between queues and topics. It’s one of some “must have” tools for EMS admins and application support team.

Get the latest installer from SourceForge:http://sourceforge.net/projects/hermesjms/files/ then run it:
java -jar hermes-installer.jar

Installation is very simple, just few screens: release notes, license agreement, installation path, components (here is only one actually), summary, files copying, shortcuts creation and installation finish.

To start HermesJMS run hermes.bat in your <installation_folder>\HermesJMS\bin. If you got error message “cannot find \bin\javaw”, make sure that you have JAVA_HOME system variable defined to your jre folder.

When Hermes started successfully, click on “Create new JMS session” button, preferences window will appear, select providers tab and right-clik on free space. Then press “Add Group” and enter group name. Right-click on “Library” and press “Add JAR(s)”. Look in <tibco_home>\ems\5.1\lib folder and select all .jar files there. Click “Open”, then let Hermes to scan jars for factories: press “Scan” button.

Then press “Apply”. All libraries will be in the list like on my screenshot.
Go to “Sessions” tab and enter name for session: “My EMS” for example, then select “EMS” loader.

Next step is select “com.tibco.tibjms. TibjmsConnectionFactory” class and “Tibco EMS” plugin. Order is very important: select loader, then class, then plugin. Right-click on free space in plugin section and press “Add property”. You have to enter all three properties: username,password and serverURL, do the same for Connection Factory, then press “OK” to save and close properties window.

Now we can connect Hermes to our EMS. Let it discover queues and topics, press “Discover queues and topics from the provider” button. Then confirm replacement of the current set of destinations and list will be updated. That’s all.

This example will just show how you create routes in EMS, Please follow the instructions to create routes on two different EMS Servers.

1. Create a copy for bin in c:\tibco\ems and name it to bin2.
2. Open tibemsd.conf under c:\tibco\ems\bin change the following settings
   a. Change the server name to EMS –SERVER to EMS-SERVERA
   b. routing property to enabled
   c. save and exit
3. Open tibemsd.conf under c:\tibco\ems\bin2 change the following settings
   a. Change the server name to EMS –SERVER to EMS-SERVERB
   b. Change the port to tcp://7224 instead of tcp://7222
   c. routing property to enabled
  d. save and exit

        instead of tcp://7222 ( You can leave FT and SSL connection factories, only required when you are using these pairs)
   b. save and exit
5. Start EMS-SERVERA
   a. You can start through service instances
     OR
   b. Using command prompt
       C:\ticbco\ems\bin\tibemsd.exe –config tibemsd.conf
6. Login to EMS Admin tool on EMS-SERVERA using admin credentials
7. Create route on EMS-SERVERA as follows
   a. Create route EMS-SERVERB url=tcp://localhost:7224
8. Start EMS-SERVERB
   a. Using command prompt
       C:\ticbco\ems\bin2\tibemsd.exe –config tibemsd.conf
9. You will see route established between these two servers, you can check in the logs or by using the following 
     command in admin console in either of the servers.
    a. show routes
10. create global queue or topic on these two instances
    a. create global topics on both the servers as follows (make sure the name matches for topics)
        i.create topic testroute global
    b. create global queues on both the servers as follows
        i. In EMS-SERVERA
                   1.create queue testroute global

11. Test or change the topic/queue names using a sample BW application.

Solution:

EMS admin password has been lost, it is easy to recover. In EMS all local users and their passwords stored in the users.conf file by default. You can find correct file in the tibemsd.conf:

EMS 5.x can be configured to use a database to store messages. The following steps have been tested on a Windows host to configure EMS 5.x with a database. For other platforms, the steps will be similar.

Setup Steps:

1. Install EMS 5.x

2. Download and install JDK 1.5 or later

3. Download and install Hibernate from the link provided at the EMS 5.x download on http:
download.tibco.com.

4. Download the corresponding database JDBC drivers. They can be found on the Internet. The corresponding jar files for the JDBC need to be added to dbstore_classpath in EMS main configuration file.

For example:

1). MySQL InnoDB

6. Create database users for EMS usage in the database. The users should have permissions to create, alter, delete, update for table, index and sequence.

7. Modify c:\tibco\ems\5.0\samples\config\stores-db.conf to put your own database store information:

There is the same Universal Installer by TIBCO, it helps to make installation process easy. Execute it, accept the license agreement, create a new or select an existing environment, check the summary and complete the installation.

Then I can star EMSCA from my Start menu. This is Eclipse, I have to create a new workspace. Then File => New EMS Central Administration Project. Enter host name and port, where is EMSCA Server is installed. Enter username and password to connect, select the deployment to create a project for.

Next step is synchronizing with EMS. TIBCO EMS => Synchronize Configurations With EMS Servers. Enter username and password, select EMS server to synchronize.

Now I can change the server configuration. Then save to SVN repository. TIBCO EMS => Save Configurations to Repository.

Then it is possible to deploy changes to the server. TIBCO EMS => Deploy EMS Project.

So, this was short description of the TIBCO EMS Central Administration, very helpful tool to manage configurations of multiple EMS instances.

I’d like to share my experience about installation of the TIBCO Enterprise Message Service Central Administration (EMSCA) server and client. At this time, TIBCO provides EMSCA server software only for Linux (Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 and 5 (x86), Oracle Enterprise Linux 4 and 5 (x86) and SUSE Enterprise 10 (x86)) and EMSCA client only for Windows, but as client is Eclipse based, I think that it could be ported easily.

I will start with the server side installation on my Red Hat Linux. The new TIBCO Universal Installer can run in GUI (default), console or silent mode. If you prefer GUI, don’t forget to set DISPLAY:

Run the installer # ./TIBCOUniversalInstaller-lnx-x86.bin, accept the license agreement, create a new or select an existing environment. Installation will perform quickly. When installation is complete, it is necessary to do some post installation tasks:

• Environment variables from the file <emsca_home>/1.0/bin/setenv must be set. Perhaps it is good idea to call this file from the user’s profile or add content of this file to the profile;
• Make Apache run as the user ‘nobody’:
  # cd <emsca_home>/1.0/httpd/conf
  # vi httpd.conf
  User nobody
  Group nobody
  and make sure that user and group ‘nobody’ are in the system;
• Configure an authentication in Apache:
  # vi httpd.conf

  Then prepare users file, I will define the ‘admin’ user only:

Next step is to create a new deployment server. Deployment server is one per project, can be one for many EMS.

It is possible to provide a username and a password to connect to the EMS. If is not included, the agent uses ‘admin’ ad username and an empty password. ems-server-username – the username used to connect to the tibemsd, ems-server-password – used with ems-server-username to connect to the tibemsd. Also it has options to grant agent some additional rights, find in the docs.

Note: To add the ems server, both Administrator and EMS should be up and running.

1. Make sure the TRA installalled on the machine where EMS server is running.
2. Run Domain Utility from TIBCO_HOME/TRA/<version that matches to ur domain>/BIN/DomainUtility.exe (Windows) or .bin (Unix)
3. In windows you can double click the domain utility, but in unix use ./<PATH to TRA BIN>/DomainUtility
Note: To enable GUI mode in Unix, your desktop must have xwindows terminal like reflection,cygwin or xwindows etc. Puty does not support xwindows properly.
4. Choose EMS administration from the menu list.
5. Click Add EMS server to TIBCO domain and next.
6. Enter all the details that is required for EMS (Version, path of tibemsd executable (.exe in windows, .bin in unix)
7. Enter the port number, user name and password
8. Test the connection
9. Finish the rest
10. Stop the EMS and start from TIBCO administrator.
